- Rites of passage are an important aspect of every Balinese Hindu’s life and invariably coincide with a physical event such as birth, puberty and marriage. Each rite is marked by a ceremony and elaborate offerings. The main aim of these rites of passage as a collective is to purify and provide the individual with spiritual energy for a peaceful, healthy and successful existence.

- Saraswati Day – the Celebration of Knowledge
- On Saturday 18th February 2006 the Balinese will celebrate Saraswati Day.
Saraswati is the Balinese Goddess of knowledge, wisdom and the arts. She is one of most revered deities that Balinese Hindu’s worship and is depicted as a very beautiful woman with four arms carrying symbols related to science and the arts. Huge stone sculptures and images of the Goddess Saraswati at the front entrance of many Balinese schools and universities is evidence of the level of local respect towards education.

- Tumpek Landep
- The Balinese lunar calendar is filled with auspicious days of religious and cultural significance. There will be yet another ceremonial occasion on Saturday 4th March 2006 known as Tumpek Landep.
The word ‘landep’ in the high-caste Balinese dialect means ‘sharp’ and traditionally this day is where tools and family heirlooms of weaponry, such as sacred swords or keris (double edged dagger with wavy blade), are sanctified.

- Tumpek Landep : Photo Gallery
- On the morning of Tumpek Landep tools and weapons are thoroughly cleaned and polished. They are then wrapped in pieces of new cloth and blessed with offerings, a sprinkle of holy water and a waft of incense.
