LOMBOK
OPENS THE DOOR
The Government of Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, has just announced its
first major event to promote tourism in the region, the LOMBOK TRAVEL MART 1999. This
event will run from Sept 26 to Sept 29, and will be the fulfillment of a priority plan
begun in 1998 to make tourism a major source of income.
The international as well as domestic potential of Lombok will be
highlighted, with a focus on Lomboks multi-layered attractions - a rich mix of
cultural, artistic, sport and adventure activities. In Lombok it is possible to experience
all of these without the hard sell, hard push, and crowds of other better-known
destinations.
At LOMBOK TRAVEL MART 1999 buyers and travel operators in the tourism
industry from around the world are being invited to see and experience for themselves what
Lombok has to offer.
They will see a destination that virtually sells itself - spectacular
mountains, beachside getaways, and a rich underwater world - all coloured by the mystique
and allure of the east, which has all but disappeared elsewhere. Visitors to the event
will be shown a destination with a second-to-none marketing potential.
It is said that location is everything, and Lombok is perfectly
positioned: Singapore and Jakarta are only a two-hour flight away, and Bali - well Bali is
on Lomboks doorstep - only a twenty minute flight.
As Governor of Lombok, Harun Al Rasyid, says: Lombok has at last
realised that it cannot continue to remain dependant on the overflow from other Indonesian
tourist destinations. Lombok now can be proud of its ability to present itself to the
world. Finally with LOMBOK TRAVEL MART 1999, Lombok opens the door.
HOLIDAY INN RESORT LOMBOK
The Holiday Inn Resort Lombok has
appointed Ricard Mehr as Food and Beverages Director and Timmy Hoevenagel as Director of
Sales and Marketing.
Ricard joins the hotel from the upmarket Boathouse in Phuket Thailand.
Timmy, returning to his beloved island of Lombok, is well known in the industry for having
worked for many years with Satriavi.
WELCOME TO LOMBOKS CYBER
INFORMATION
PT SIMPEL MEMORI
SISTEM, a computer company in Bali, has expanded their business to Lombok.
For the first step, they will set up a KIOSK INFORMATION
terminal at Selampang Airport as an innovative development in tourism information services
in Lombok.
THE KIOSK INFORMATION will make it easy for tourists to get
the information they need about tourism, and will include guides to destinations,
accommodation, restaurants, a calendar of events, and reservation bookings.
In line with their motto MAKE IT SIMPLE, this equipment is
very easy to use and flexible, and should be no more difficult than using an ATM machine.
