 LOMBOK PROMOTION BOARD
Following the
success of the Lombok Travel Mart held on September 26 to 29 1999, the tourist industry -
in conjunction with the local government - established the Lombok - Sumbawa Tourism Promotion Board on October 7. The Sahid Legi Hotel was the
location for the launch of the new Board, which is now known as the Lombok-Sumbawa Promo.
The usage of the term "Lombok-Sumbawa" instead of
"West Nusa Tenggara" (NTB) is based on the consideration that in the
context of tourism, the former term is much better known than the latter. A Director, Mr.
Freddy Rompas, and a Vice Director, Mr. Misbah Wiryadi, will lead the Board, and for the
time being the office of the Board will be located at the Lombok Raya Hotel in Mataram
(Jl. Panca Usaha No. 11).
The objective of the establishment of this Board is to assist the Government and
individual tourist operators with promoting the region on a much wider scale: more
intensively, more effectively and more professionally. The Board also aims to consolidate
financial sources and direct the energy of the parties concerned into one united concept,
in order to optimise achievement. It hopes to sell opportunities for tourism investment
regionally, nationally, and internationally, as well as to increase the number of tourists
visiting the area according to the target set by the government.
SAFETY WEEK CAMPAIGN
The Sheraton
Senggigi Lombok held a Safety Week Campaign on 25 - 31 October, in which all staff
participated in promoting security and safety for tourists while they are enjoying a
holiday in paradise.
Several Safety programs were provided for all Sheraton Senggigi staff, such as First Aid
Training, Drug Abuse Training, Fire Drill Training, and ERT (Emergency Response Team)
Training. For these sessions trainers from related institutions were invited to present,
such as the Provincial Red Cross for First Aid Training, Polda-Nusa Tenggara Barat (Police
Office) for Drug Abuse Training, and the Manpower and Emergency Team for Fire Drill and
ERT Training.
Environmental and
social awareness programs were also scheduled to run during this campaign. All staff spent
half a day participating in the general cleaning of the hotel area, and a blood donation
program was held in the hotel, with 30 staff contributing.
So, no need to worry while on holidays - the staff have already been trained by experts!
DINNER FOR LTM 'S
CLOSING CEREMONY
Lombok's inaugural Lombok Travel Mart
(LTM), which ran at the end of September, closed at the Senggigi Beach Hotel. After
promoting Lombok for two days under the banner "Lombok Opens the Door", all sellers and buyers joined together to enjoy a lovely dinner.
The dinner was located near the beach area, and a sumptuous choice of dishes was provided.
Many of the hotels supporting the Travel Mart - such as the Jayakarta Hotel, Sheraton
Senggigi Resort, Holiday Inn, Oberoi, Intan Laguna, and Sahid Legi Hotel - acted as hosts,
each presenting their own unique dishes especially for the dinner.
Many important people in the tourist industry, including the Governor of Nusa Tenggara
Barat, were invited to the closing ceremony. Before the end of the glamorous ceremony, the
governor was asked for a song. With his typically booming bass, he obliged and sang an old
song together with many additional "musicians",
taking the stage area to full capacity. He received a standing ovation for his
performance, and then, to symbolise the completion of the program, balloons were released,
filling the sky.
