ANNIE OGLE, SENIWATI GALLERY- UBUD

The next show at the Seniawati Gallery of art by Women, Ubud, Bali will be an exhibition by American artist Annie Ogle. Annie Ogle was born in Minneapolis, Minnesofa,USA in 1940, into a small farming community. She studied art at the Minneapolis School of Art in 1958-59, particulary enjoying life-drawing classes. In the 1960s dramatic ink line drawings char acterized her work, and by 1974 she was experimenting with drawing in pastels and ar acrylics. From 1961 t0 1985, Annie Ogle traversed the world as cabin staff with Pan Americam Airlines, finally coming to rest in Bali with its healing and spiritual energy. Annie Ogle has created a home and studio in a secluded part of the Sayan Valley, overtaking a spectacular view of the Ayung River and its stepped rice terraces.

From this contemplative and serene life, comes the "Now" part of her current show, in which she uses her model sketches, combined with intricate mosaic or stained-glass patterns.. Harmonious colors, a fine draughtsmanship and a refined imagination create figures imbued to the status of Goddesses and Gods. Since then she has concentrated on her art, and has been very produchve-participahng in many group shows in Seniawati Gallery amd Pranoto's Gallery, both in Ubud. In 1997, she was chosen to take part in a major exhibition in Malaysia - Maya - and her works were a sell-out. In her current exhibition she is presenting oil paintings from sessions with models and in conjunction with a small group of artists in a private studio in San Francisco from 1980-85.

These form the section "Then" ,and, in contrast to the "Now" section of this exhibition, are more aggressive and masculine works, with bold colors and textures, and reflecting those times. This exhibition is her first ever solo exhibihon. The exhibition will run from 5-29 August 2000 at the Seniwati Showspace, Ubud Main Road.
